Welcome to School of Education
The School of Education is one of the four Schools currently existent within the Botswana Open University (BOU) structure. All the four School of Education (SOE) Departments are housed at the University’s Headquarters in Gaborone, with plans underway to relocate the Department of Early Childhood to the Gaborone Regional Campus premises, to allow for its further growth and development.
SOE’s mandate is to provide access to high quality education and training, with programmes ranging from certificate, diploma, undergraduate to postgraduate levels. SOE also aims at providing continued high quality in-service training for the teaching field, to up-skill serving teachers and trainers, as well as ODL practitioners, in partnership with government and private sector employers in Botswana and across the SADC region. The SOE team has adopted innovative, technology enhanced open and distance learning (ODL) approaches and mechanisms for the delivery of its programmes, with the aim of ensuring effective facilitation of teaching and learning.
The School of Education has graduated a total of 1650 students between its various programmes since 2013, the largest number of graduates (1015) coming from the Diploma in Integrated Early Childhood Development. SOE was the first winner of the prestigious Vice Chancellor’s Award in 2018 for its innovativeness and success in integrating ICT in teaching and learning.
